Data and sources
Everything this site knows about a eulogy, apart from its text, comes from an open registry that anyone can use. The texts of the 2004 editions are under copyright and are not in it.
The registry (CRMEDR)
The Common Roman Martyrology Eulogy Data Repository, CRMEDR, is a public repository of open data. It holds:
- the identifiers of every eulogy, current and deprecated, with the day, the entry number, the asterisk and the edition each is attested in (see Canonical eulogy IDs);
- the subject of every eulogy, the saint or celebration it is about, in Latin, Italian and English;
- the typology of each date: whether it marks a dies natalis, a burial, a translation of relics, a finding, a dedication, and so on;
- the places each eulogy names, with their role (place of death, see, burial…), and a gazetteer that resolves each place to a Wikidata item and its modern country, which drives the map;
- the persons each eulogy names, with their Wikidata items where they have one, and where each person and place is printed in the 2004 Latin and Italian texts, as positions in the text, never the words (see Names and places);
- the misprints the curators have verified in the printed editions, and the curator notes (see Notes, misprints and errata).
What is not in it
The copyrighted texts of the 2004 editions are deliberately absent: the registry holds only structural facts about the eulogies. The one exception is the place names, which are facts and are quoted as printed. Citation-length openings of eulogies appear only in the registry's working report, to identify entries.
The API
The site reads its texts and data through a public API. Its reference, with every endpoint and a way to try them, is at /scalar.
